In 2022, I had no marketing degree. No agency experience. Just a ₹450 Udemy course and a gut feeling that digital marketing could be my thing.
It all started with a basic online course in digital marketing. Then I got curious. I niched down into content marketing. Then social media marketing.
That’s when something clicked.
Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn — I didn’t just study them, I got obsessed with how they worked.
But after all the learning came the big question: Who’s going to hire me without a formal background?
I applied for a few jobs. Got rejected. But I didn’t stop. I switched gears.
I started learning freelancing. Took classes. Built imaginary brands. Showed generated results — to prove real skills. I built a portfolio out of thin air.
Then one day, I was casually going through Instagram stories…
“We’re hiring a Social Media Manager. Email us.”
It was Indian Farmer — a huge creator with over 5 million followers (in 2023) across platforms.
I was barely 2–3 months into this field. No real client work. Just my hustle and hunger.
But I pitched. I wrote an email that didn’t scream “pick me” — it quietly said: “I’m made for this.”
I waited. 1 day. 3 days. 7 days. By Day 10, I had moved on.
Day 12 — I casually checked my inbox. One new message.
“Can you share your number? Let’s connect.”
That’s how I landed my first ever real client. And that too, one of the biggest in the creator space.
I didn’t have credibility. I created proof.
I didn’t wait for a job to be handed to me. I wrote my own intro, and sent it anyway.
If you’re reading this thinking “Why would someone hire me?” — let me tell you something:
It only takes one email. The right one.💡 Want more stories like this?
